Irrigation Water Turned Back On for December 1 and 2

The rain last week was not enough to fill the ditches and pipelines, so there was not an opportunity for customers to refill storage tanks and ponds. Also, there is no rain forecasted for the next several days.

Therefore, the BVID Board is allowing the delivery system to be turned on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week (December 1st and 2nd).

Please keep in mind that this release of water from Collins Lake needs to be used only where needed and not wasted on plants that are dormant due to the cool weather.

BVID Water Turned Back On, October 23rd through the 27th

At tonight's Board meeting the Board decided to turn the water system back on for the next few days. This decision was based on the warm & dry weather we are currently experiencing.

The water will begin filling the system Friday October 23rd and will be turned off Tuesday October 27th.

The Board will reconsider any further water operations at the November 12th Board meeting.

Now is the time to top off your water tanks and water storage ponds.

Thank You.

BVID Water Turned Off

With the current storm that is upon us and more rain forecast in less than a week, we are turning off the irrigation system for the winter.

There will not be any winter water deliveries.

We recommend that for those that need water during the off season, to install water storage such as a water tank. Also, rain water will be captured as much as possible and delivered throughout the system.

Collins Lake Irrigation System will be left on into September

At last night’s, May 14th, Board meeting it was decided that even though the Drought is not over, there is enough water in Collins Lake to leave the irrigation system on FULL TIME at least into September.

This does not mean that you are allowed to waste this precious resource. In order for this to work, we all will need to irrigate wisely. That means that water should not leave your property. If it does, it means that you are over irrigating and wasting water. The water that you do not waste now will allow for the system to be left on longer late in the season.

No Collins Lake Water Delivery Until Tuesday

Currently the Irrigation system in the Collins Lake service area is still off. However, we will be starting up the system early next week and expect to have water available beginning on Tuesday.

The really good news is that with the last storm, Collins Lake is now almost 80 percent full. The Board will be discussing and considering the schedule for the rest of the irrigation season at the May 14th Board meeting (5:00 at the District Office).

Collins Lake Delivery System to Remain Off

This wet weather has allowed BVID to perhaps recover from the Drought conditions that we have been struggling against for more than 2 years. Collins Lake has more water in it now than we have seen since early 2007 and it is still rising. Also, these rains have put enough moisture in the ground to last us a few days. Therefore, we will not be turning on the Collins Lake delivery system for the scheduled Wednesday - Sunday deliveries this week.

At this time it is unknown as to whether we will need to turn the water before next week, but we will post an update if we do turn the water back on.

Irrigation Schedule, 2009

The Browns Valley Irrigation District Directors had a board meeting Thursday, March 26. Included on the meeting’s agenda was setting a water delivery schedule to help budget the available water. The Collins Lake Service Area is still in a drought emergency and the schedule is subject to change depending on the weather.

April 10 will be the first day of the 2009 irrigation season. During the remainder of April, water is expected to be delivered three full days a week (Friday, Saturday and Sunday).

May through August, the schedule has five full days of delivery (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday).

September, delivery is expected to be three full days (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday).

Finally, in October, the deliveries will be reduced to two full days (Saturday and Sunday).

Notice that changes to the schedule will be provided here on the website and posted on bulletin boards throughout the district.

At each Board Meeting the Directors will listen to public comments, discuss the drought operations and make adjustments as they are needed.

Updated 2009 Irrigation Rates

At the March 12th BVID Board of Directors meeting, The Board set Summer Irrigation Water Rates. The rates will not change from last year. However, as a response to last years rationing, the Board also decided to offer a 10% discount on the Miner Inch Rate to customers that are in the Collins Lake Service Area. The discount does not apply to the administrative fee.
Summer Irrigation Bills for 2009 will be mailed out toward the end of March.

Rainwater In Ditches

We are thankful for the rain that has fallen in the last few days. It has caused ditches and pipelines within the District to fill with water. As a result, some people may be getting water from their service while others do not. Be assured that all of this water is runoff from the much needed precipitation and is not the result of releases from Collins Lake.

With consistent rain, water will pool in the ditches or flow as if it is being released from Collins Lake. In the winter, ditches are set up in a way that helps prevent flooding, while still providing the added benefit of capturing some water that may be used by our customers.

2009 Irrigation Rates

BVID is still hopeful that there will be enough rain for Collins Lake to recover before the Irrigation season begins. On January 29, in preparation for the coming Irrigation Season, the Board of Directors decided that 2009 Irrigation Rates will be the same as 2008 Irrigation Rates.

Water System Off

The water delivery scheduled for Friday November 7th and Saturday November 8th has been canceled due to accumulated rainfall totals. The only water that will be in the system is captured rainfall until such time as the water stored in Collins Lake recovers to a reasonable level.

The Board meets again November 13 where they will discuss the possibility of any future deliveries. It is very possible that the water will be turned off completely. Additionally, there will be no winter/stock water delivery until the lake recovers sufficiently as determined by the board.

Winter Water Suspended

Browns Valley Irrigation District Board of Directors voted unanimously on July 24, 2008 that Winter Water (also known as stock water) will not be available until Collins Lake refills appropriately. The Board will review the issue at every regular Board meeting to determine when and if they will be able to reinstate Winter Water deliveries.

Collins Lake Status

Due the Drought conditions at Collins Lake, we have developed a graph that includes our current Lake elevation to an operating curve of where the Lake elevation needs to be in order to meet the goal end-of-year lake elevation. If we are at or above the “line“, we are in good shape. However, if we are below the “line” we are using too much water and need to conserve more. This graph will be updated each week.
